4 Stunning Spring Photoshoot Outfit Ideas for ANY Occasion
One of the most common questions we get asked is, “What do we wear to our photo session?” We created a Free What to Wear Guide that breaks down style aesthetics for:
Men/Dads
Women/Moms
Seniors
Kids
Engaged Couples
While it’s a super useful resource, we realized we needed to give our clients a breakdown of spring photoshoot outfit ideas!
Spring is a time of renewal – a perfect time of year for engagement, maternity, family, and senior pictures. The weather is usually really nice, and everything is blooming and becoming green again!
We usually give outfgit suggestions based on the type of photo shoot you’re looking for (outfit ideas for a maternity photoshoot look a lot different than a senior session!). But here are some common rules to stick by:
Wear light layers just in case it is a bit chilly or windy on the day of your session. We also tend to move in and out of shaded areas at parks.
Another great option is a light-colored floral or plaid.

What To Wear For Spring Engagement Photos
When choosing outfits for 2 people in an engagement session, pick 3 or 4 colors as your palette and coordinate.
Compliment each other but don’t match. Maybe include one or more of your wedding colors in your outfit choices.
Don’t include too many prints. If one of you wears a shirt/dress with a print, the other should pick a solid shirt and pants with coordinating colors from that print.
What To Wear For Your Spring Maternity Photo Shoot
For maternity pictures, the mom-to-be should stand out. Choose the most color and/or a print for your outfit.
Pastels and light neutrals look great at the park and the beach! Maxi dresses, dresses that tie at the waist, or long, flowing skirts with a bandeau bra or crop top are good options.
Keep accessories minimal because we want to focus on you. Make sure you are comfortable in the outfit and are able to move around easily.
Very Important: wear comfortable shoes! We’ll be walking around a bit to find the perfect backdrop for your maternity photos.
Coordinating spring photoshoot outfit ideas for the entire family is its own battle.
Similar rules can apply to family sessions. For example, some rules to stick by for large family sessions are:
Pick 3 or 4 colors as your palette.
Ensure you don’t use too much of 1 color.
Try not to have 1 person wear a dominant color that is not worn by anyone else.
Comfort is key in all types of sessions, but maybe most importantly in family sessions with kids. If kids are uncomfortable or don’t like their outfits, it may be more challenging to get those authentic smiles!
Your senior portrait session is a time to express your personal style. It may be appealing to choose the latest trend, but sticking with a more classic look will ensure you shine in your senior pictures.
Try to avoid clothing that is too tight or too loose. Stay away from clothing with logos or words.
Added bonus: you’ll be able to look back on them and smile for many years to come.
We hope these short tips have given you some direction for Spring photoshoot outfit ideas. Be sure to check out the extra tips under each section. And remember— We have a more in-depth guide here!
