Mackenzie’s Senior Pictures at Sand Key Beach in Clearwater
We love working with seniors! They are bold, bright and ready to take on the world. Mackenzie was no exception. She is really into theatre and her skills showed in her senior pictures as we were able to capture quite a few facets of her personality.
We were also able to use a variety lighting choices to capture different moods and feels throughout her senior portrait session. When we teach photo classes, we discuss the different ways to light a subject and the effects of each lighting choice. We chose to backlight certain shots where the light is coming from behind the subject. This lighting options gives a bit of a dreamy look and forms a lovely glow of light around the subject.
We also chose to use flat light which is bright and quite feminine. It’s light and airy and has a clean, modern feel. It evens the skin tone and can be very flattering. This is a great choice for headshots.
We also used natural and artificial (flash) side light. Light from the side can be dramatic and has quite an impact. We love using side light to show the boldness and strength of our dynamic, senior girl clients.
Our use of artificial light (flash) from the front allows us to capture the beautiful colors of the sunset at the beach. When a subject is lit from the front there are no shadows which is perfect when taking portraits.
Being natural light photographers, we love using the ambient or available light. The direct, late afternoon light at the beach is warm and is referred to as the golden hour. We used direct flash in the bottom photo as the sun was setting and we began to lose ambient light.
Regardless of the light, our goal is to capture the personality of each client. Mackenzie made our job easy!
